How To Brew Your Tea

The Perfect Hot Brew: A Ritual of Aroma and Flavor

Hot brewing is the traditional way to unlock the full complexity and soul of the tea leaves. By using the right temperature and timing, you can bring out the rich, multi-layered notes that define a premium harvest.

Simple Steps

  1. Warm the Vessel: Rinse your teapot or cup with hot water first. This warms the vessel and helps maintain a consistent temperature during brewing.
  2. Measure the Tea: Place the tea leaves into your pot or infuser. (For Yixing tea, we recommend approximately 3-5g of tea for every 150ml of water).
  3. The "Awakening" (Optional): Pour a small amount of hot water over the leaves and discard it immediately. This "wakes up" the leaves and prepares them to release their full aroma.
  4. The Pour: Pour hot water over the leaves. For Yixing Black Tea, the ideal water temperature is around 90°C–95°C (194°F–203°F).
  5. Steep & Savor: Let the tea steep for 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your preference for strength. Pour into your cup and enjoy the steam and fragrance before your first sip.

Master Tips for Hot Brewing

  • Avoid Boiling Water: Using water that is "rolling boiling" (100°C) can sometimes scorch delicate leaves. Aim for just under boiling to keep the flavor smooth and sweet.
  • Multiple Infusions: High-quality leaves like ours can be brewed 3 to 5 times. With each subsequent brew, increase the steeping time by 30 seconds to discover how the flavor profile evolves.
  • The Zisha Advantage: If you are using a Yixing Zisha (Purple Clay) teapot, the clay will "breathe" with the tea, absorbing the oils over time and making every future brew even more fragrant.

The Art of Cold Brew: Pure, Crisp, and Effortless

Cold brewing is one of the best ways to enjoy the natural sweetness of tea without any bitterness. Follow this simple guide to create the perfect refreshing bottle.

Simple Steps

  1. Prepare: Place your tea leaves (or tea bags) directly into a clean bottle or pitcher.
  2. Hydrate: Fill the bottle with cold, filtered water.
  3. Infuse: Let it steep for 2 to 4 hours at room temperature.
  4. Enjoy: Once the flavor reaches your desired strength, it’s ready to drink!

The "Overnight" Method (Highly Recommended)

For the best flavor profile and ultimate convenience, we recommend the fridge-steeping method:

  • Prep Before Bed: Prepare your tea in the evening and place the bottle in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Ready to Go: By morning, the tea will be perfectly infused—chilled, smooth, and ready to grab for work or school.

Pro Tips for the Perfect Sip

  • Keep it Chilled: Adding a few ice cubes before serving enhances the crispness and makes the tea even more refreshing.
  • Travel-Ready: Use a portable glass or BPA-free bottle so you can enjoy your cold brew throughout your commute or study sessions.
  • Natural Sweetness: Cold brewing extracts fewer tannins, meaning your tea will taste naturally sweeter and smoother than hot-brewed tea.
